Renal pelvis or renal pelvis is a funnel-shaped chamber located inside the kidney and plays an important role in the process of collecting and removing urine. The renal pelvis consists of two parts. A number of diseases can attack this area, which can cause interference with its function.
Urine is the result of blood filtering carried out by the kidneys. After being produced, urine will pass through a number of parts, namely the renal pelvis, ureter, bladder, and excreted through the urethra during urination.

The renal pelvis is a space of about 0.4-1 cm in diameter with funnel-shaped branches located in the kidney. This area is directly related to the upper part of the kidney and ureter connecting channels.
The function of the renal pelvis is as a temporary urine container, after being produced by the kidney filtration area (nephron), this urine will then flow into the ureter and be discharged out of the body.
The renal pelvis consists of two parts, namely:
Calyces
Calyces is the initial and largest part of the renal pelvis. This section consists of spaces called major calyx and smaller branches (minor calyx).
In calyces, there is a small bowl that functions to receive urine from the kidney filtration area (nephron). This bowl is also a temporary container for urine before being channeled to the ureter.
Hilum
Hilum is the end of the renal pelvis that is connected directly to the ureter. This section is a short channel at the end of the kidney. In the hilum, there are large blood vessels, namely the arteries and veins of the kidneys. This part is also the entrance and exit of blood from the kidneys.
When sorted, the blood enters the kidneys to be filtered by an area called the nephron. The results of filtering from the nephron or urine will enter the renal pelvis through calyces (storage bowls) and out through the hilum to be distributed to the ureter.

Transitional cell carcinoma
Transitional cell carcinoma is one of the cancers that can occur in the renal pelvis. However, the occurrence is relatively rare, only about 7% of all types of cancer in the kidney.
Symptoms of this condition can vary depending on the severity. The most common symptom is blood appearing in the urine, and pain in the side of the waist or lower back does not go away.
Pyelonephritis
Pyelonephritis is inflammation of the renal pelvis. This condition is generally caused by the spread of bacteria from bladder infections that do not get treatment. Pyelonephritis can cause back pain and fever symptoms.
Hydronephrosis
Hydronephrosis in this condition, a blockage in the flow of urine or backflow of urine from the bladder, can cause the pelvic renal to swell. This condition can cause no symptoms, but in some patients, pain in the sides of the abdomen, waist and groin pain can occur.
